Our Values

The Priddy Lab is unified by our love for STEM, but we are aware that our responsibilities as lab members extend beyond our research. We strive to create an environment that promotes the success of ALL scholars, appreciating their unique backgrounds, perspectives, skill sets, and goals. Recognizing that our successes as researchers are dependent on our ability to work alongside and learn from others, we acknowledge the importance of diversity and work to maintain an actively inclusive lab culture.

Specific Lab Actions

The Priddy Lab is taking these specfic actions to create change:

  1. At each weekly lab meeting, we spend time addressing issues of diversity, equity, and/or inclusion to discuss what we are learning and to help students to become comfortable talking about these topics.
  2. We support departmental, college, university, and community efforts which promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  3. We work to see change in our community by participating in outreach events and organizations and making these opportunities known to each person in the lab.
  4. As sincere self-assessment is critical for growth, we will continually reflect on our lab culture and lab action items, and discuss ways in which we can improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in our lab.
  5. We submitted a manuscript (currently in review) in which we highlight our recent efforts to improve DEI through lab dialogue, sharing of resources, and outreach.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Priddy Lab believes that diversity in academia and in the lab is not only important, but necessary. Diversity enhances education, encourages personal growth, and builds communities.
